I cannot wait anymore to share my IG Mini Quilt! (IG is short for Instagram.) I signed up for the IG Mini Quilt swap back in August. There are over 500 quilters in the swap so we were divided up into groups. Each group has a "swap mama" who keeps track of everyone and makes sure we are all keeping our promises to sew and send our mini quilts on time. I am in Kay's group.
I sent my quilt out last week but I don't think my partner has received it yet. I am almost positive that he is not following my blog though so I am going to share my mini here even before it is seen on Instagram! So you blog readers get the sneak peek! If you think you might be my partner and you are reading this you might want to look away if you don't want your surprise to be spoiled.
Okay, so here it is!

IG Mini Quilt "Gasoline Rainbow" designed, pieced and quilted by Anita LaHay of Daydreams of Quilts. |
My partner said he (yes, he is a man - that was exciting and a different aspect to the challenge in itself!) likes dark vibrant colours and things inspired by nature. Originally I was going to have the pebble shapes make a winding pathway on the quilt. Then one rainy day I was watching water bead on my deck and make pebble shapes. Then I got to thinking about how water beads on gas and oil spills on pavement and makes rainbows. That is when I decided to make my quilt a gasoline rainbow. I found this photo on a Google search and used that as my inspiration for where to place my colours.
I free-motion quilted the entire quilt with pebbles in black Aurifil 50 weight thread. This quilt is made entirely with Kona cotton solids. I don't know the colour numbers-they were in the "New Dark Palette charm pack except for the yellow and pink in the middle which were in the New Summer 13 charm pack. The quilt measures 23.5 by 23.5 inches. (Our size limit was 24 inches.)

Here is my quilt label. I had it rotated but for some reason it is uploading sideways. Anyway, you get the idea. :)

Some of you saw this image on a WIP Wednesday post a few weeks back and you thought I was crazy... but now you can see where I was going with this. :) |
I am so, so proud of this quilt and it was so hard to pack it up and send it away. I hope my partner will love it as much as I do and I can't wait to see what he thinks when he gets it! If it weren't for him I wouldn't have thought to come up with this design so I have him to thank for that! Hurry up and get there little package! :)
