Introducing Clinton Modern Creative - A new Canadian Online Quilt Shop

Hi! Today I would like to introduce you to Clinton Modern Creative! A new Canadian online quilt shop in Saskatoon, SK.

Clinton Modern Creative has a fantastic selection of fabrics. I just ordered the Alison Glass bundle from them this morning. Darla, the shop owner behind Clinton Modern Creative, is an online friend of mine whom I met on Instagram and although we've never met in person yet I feel like I know her personally. She has curated an amazing selection of modern fabrics and the shop has a fantastic notions section as well. I have ordered several Pellon interfacing products from her Interfacing and Stabilizers section that are favorites for bag making.

Alison Glass Chroma Handcrafted Batik.

Clinton Modern Creative is now a sponsor of the Daydreams of Quilts blog so watch for more news from them soon!

Double Hidden Nine Patch Pillows

Hello! Today I have a small finish to show you! I have made two quilted pillow covers using the Double Hidden Nine Patch method from Angela Pingel's (affiliate link) Craftsy Class: Disappearing Blocks With Pre Cuts.

Note: This post contains affiliate links. For more information please see my About page.

My cousin is getting married next weekend and I have made him and his soon-to-be wife a quilt using my Pixel Heart in a Pixel Heart pattern. It has the borders on and is basted but still needs to be quilted. (Yikes! Yes, I'm on it.)

Double Hidden Nine Patch Pillow cover using Kona and "Horizon" by Kate Spain. Technique is taught in Angela Pingel's Craftsy Class Disappearing Blocks With Pre Cuts.

I am backing the coordinating quilt with Tula Pink's "Free Fall" 108" wide backing and I had loads left to back the two pillows as well. I put hidden zippers in the backs.

The other Hidden Nine Patch pillow with the same credits as the one above.

The second pillow back. Love that I didn't cut the bird up on this one. :)

It was a productive Sunday with getting borders on and basting the wedding quilt and an impromptu make of these pillows as a gift add-on.

Heads up: Tonight is the last night of Craftsy's June 50% off supplies and kits sale!

My Finished Totes Ma Totes Bag

Hi! What did you do over the weekend? I'll tell you what I did... I sewed the Canadian flag quilt that I posted about yesterday for a customer order. Once that was finished I sewed my very first Totes Ma Totes bag. This is a bag pattern from Emmaline Bags.

tote bag

I made the bag with fabrics that were gifted to me by sewing friends. The fabric on the outside of the bag is a Kokka fabric and I am just thrilled with how it turned out on the bag. It came as a printed panel and I was very strategic in cutting it so I could use as much as possible in my bag.

In addition to buying the pattern from Emmaline bags I also bought the hardware kit from them as well. The "Handcrafted MADE IN CANADA" bag label is not part of the kit but is a fun add-on to the bag. It is also available from Emmaline Bags. (This is not a sponsored post. I just love Emmaline Bags!)

This is the back of the bag cut from the same Kokka panel. The handles and lining were gifts from the days when I was in the Canuck B-Day Club. All the fabrics I used are heavier than quilting cotton. They are more of a canvas weight so I did not have to interface them.

I used my ever handy and useful Crop-a-Dial from my scrapbooking supplies to set the eyelets on the straps. It worked perfectly!

View from the top! The star fabric came directly from Japan. The pink sewing machines were part of the Kokka panel.

The inside of the bag. This bag has three pockets! A dual slip pocket (pink floral), a zipper pocket (barely visible above the pink floral with a pale blue zipper) and a magnetic snap pocket (blue floral).

The pattern was a challenge for me as it was my first time sewing it. I estimate it took me about five hours to make. One hour of that was cutting. I think I will get faster the more times I make it.

I would recommend this pattern for an intermediate to advanced sewist. Or as Janelle from Emmaline Bags calls us... a bagineer. I will definitely make this pattern again and I love my new bag! I plan to tote all my embroidery, cross stitch and hand sewing projects around with me in this bag this summer as the kids and I enjoy the summer weather.

Heart Shaped Canadian Flag Pixelated Quilt

Hello Friends! Canada Day is less than a month away and this year it's Canada's 150th birthday. The impossibly difficult to say and spell Sesquicentennial. Here at Daydreams of Quilts we are in full Canada Day preparation and our shop is stocked with Canadian flag quilts and pillows.

This is another heart shaped Canadian flag quilt made from my pattern for a customer in my Etsy shop! I have had three orders for quilts from my pattern so far. One went to Calgary, one is en-route to Halifax and this one is heading out to California!

This one is made with a darker grey background and I really like it! The heart flag really pops!

I am really enjoying making these quilts! I've got it down to a science now. :)

Toque, Eh? Quilted Pillow is out in Quilter's Connection Magazine plus a copy to GIVEAWAY

Hello and Happy June 1st! June is my favorite summer month because my birthday is this month. :D

The Summer edition of Quilter's Connection Magazine is out this month too and my pillow "Toque, eh?" is inside! I realize toques are a winter garment but the theme of the issue is Canada's 150th anniversary so that is why the toque (Canadian word for a warm woolen cap or hat) is in this issue.

I submitted this project back in December and a couple of toque blocks have come out in the meantime. Fortunately they are not the same as mine. :)

The instructions and templates to make the pillow are in the magazine (starting page 26). Leave me a comment here for a chance to win a copy. Maybe tell me what's an iconic symbol or word specific to your country. "Toque" and "Eh" are quintessential Canadian words.
