A February Finish! Comfort Quilt for my Aunt

Hello! I had hoped to write this post last night after supper. I was so tired that I decided to crawl into bed when the baby went down at 6:50 p.m. and just have a little nap before I wrote my blog post. I didn't wake up until 8:00 this morning! I have been quite sick this week with a bad cold so I guess I needed some rest. :) Despite being sick though I did finish a quilt! I doesn't count for any of my finish along challenges because I did not set an intention to do it at the beginning of the month/quarter. I was very happy to have a finish on the last day of February none-the-less.

This project does qualify for Sew My Stash 2015 Precuts Challenge as it used a Layer Cake (and entire quilt kit) that I had sitting on a shelf in my stash. I will be linking up with that challenge! I started cutting this quilt on Feb. 19th and had it finished on Feb. 28, 2015.

"Piece of Cake 2" quilt designed by Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms. Pieced and quilted by Anita LaHay.
I did not know at the beginning of January when I was setting my first quarter quilting goals that my Aunt would be diagnosed with breast cancer. And then when I knew about the cancer it was thought it would be a lumpectomy. But it has now become a double mastectomy. A comfort quilt is definitely in order. When she came home from the hospital I got to work quickly.

This quilt top took about three hours to piece. It's a good pattern for when you need a quilt quickly. This was a kit from Craftsy.com and I got the pattern from Camille's Craftsy class. The kit came with everything but the batting. The quilt uses 30 layer cake squares (10 x 10 inch squares).

This fabric line is called "Scrumptious" by Bonnie and Camille for Moda Fabrics.

I wanted a very feminine and cheerful quilt so this is perfect. It's a woman's disease (primarily) and she lives with all males in her house so there can be no mistake that this is her quilt. I hope it will bring her comfort as she goes through her treatment, fights and wins her battle. This is going out to her in the mail this week.
